Are deep learning and critical thinking two separate or joined up cognitive behaviours? Can we think critically without having in-depth knowledge and visa versa? Prior to AI I would say no, but now I am in two minds about this. If I teach students to critically analyse AI generated texts that extend beyond their current learning, is this wrong? Should we therefore always make sure that the discussion is founded in an established body of work (to discourage mirroring)?
