8 Inspirational Voices on AI for the Summer
You May Know Some, but Most Likely Not All of Them
It’s end of term and almost vacation time.
Perhaps you’re fed up with news about AI and higher education; I get that. Maybe come back to this post later.
But perhaps you are looking to pick up your AI game and do a bit of inspirational reading while you’re away. If this is the case, my advice is to fill your inbox with ideas, inspirational writing and commentary on AI by great writers dedicated to this particular subject. There’s so much terrific inspiration to be had at the moment.
My personal recommendation for you today is to check out these bright people who all have a newsletter and/or a blog worth paying attention to.
I have kept the list ruthlessly short to make it easy to begin exploring.
Here goes:
Doan Winkel teaches entrepreneurship and is going places with AI and higher education. I am not sure where, exactly, but I certainly want to tag along for the ride and learn more. I suggest you do the same. Check out his blog here.
Michelle Kassorla, English professor at Georgia State University, writes the Substack The Academic Platypus where she and her colleague push the boundaries for college writing in a world with generative AI. Multiple great lessons learned right here.
Stefan Bauschard describes himself as Natural language conversationalist; Cofounder, educating4ai.com; Owner, DebateUS.org; Executive Co-Director, New York City Urban Debate League. Stefan is hugely productive with a new quality post coming out every couple of days or so - check out his Substack here.
Leon Furze is a seasoned consultant who is currently pursuing a PhD on the impact of Generative AI in education and writing instruction. Leon's newsletter, known for its critical and smart analysis, complements his recently published wonderful book. You can find Leon’s work right here.
Marc Watkins has been on a streak lately with his Substack series of hugely compelling posts taking a reflective, critical stance towards generative AI in education.
Jason Gulya offers insights and thoughts on AI in the classroom on LinkedIn, in his podcast and - more recently - right here on Substack. Jason’s daily posts on LinkedIn are both provocative and inspirational. A voice to follow for sure.
Conor Grennan used to be Dean of Students, NYU Stern School of Business and is a NY Times and #1 Int'l bestselling author. Conor is obsessed with generative AI and is Head of GenerativeAI@Stern, a no-tech initiative aimed at fostering generative AI fluency in Stern’s students, faculty, and administration. Conor writes the AI Mindset Newsletter.
Ethan Mollick is the name you probably already knew. But there is no getting around this Wharton Professor who leads the conversation about AI in the classroom. His Substack One Useful Thing is a must-read.
Happy reading, and have a great Summer everyone!
